Rev. Sam Mountain, Senior Pastor
Pastor Sam Mountain has been the Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Collingswood, NJ since July 2008. He is a graduate of Eastern Nazarene College and attended Nazarene Theological Seminary. Pastor Sam was on staff at churches in Boston, MA and Kansas City, MO and pastored churches in Bel Air, MD Bethlehem, PA and Cape May, NJ before moving to Collingswood in 2008.
As a pastor, Sam has a passion for building relationships for the Lord within the church family and in the community. He has served several communities as hospital, police, fire and rescue chaplain. Sam has been involved in coaching local sports as well for many years. He has a passion to care for the needs of pastors and deeply cares for the community he lives in. The motto of his life is, “Only one life, soon it will pass, only what’s done for Christ will last.”
Sam’s greatest treasure is his family. (He also loves the beach and is an avid Eagles, Phillies and Sixers fan.) He and his wife, Lisa, have three children, Stephany (son-in law Steve) granddaughter Everly, Karisa (son-in law Lindell) grandson Trenton, and granddaughter Eliza, and son Brad.
Matt Peace, Connections Pastor
Matt Peace works as the Connections Pastor here at First Church. He and his wife Bernadette have two adult children and live in Mt. Holly, NJ. Matt grew up in Minnesota while Bernadette is native to New Jersey. They are passionate about loving God with all their hearts, and seeing people get connected to God through the church.
Bernadette works as a Social Worker at McGuire Air Force Base and has worked in Social Work for the past 12 years since earning her Master’s degree in Social Work from West Chester University. Matt also runs an International Community Development non-profit called The Amoveo Group. Matt has visited 75 countries for his work over the years.
They love life groups and sharing their lives through relationships with people. They enjoy sports (mostly Matt), learning about history and watching old movies.
Shawn Zook, Pastoral Assistant for Outreach and Youth
Shawn Zook is a husband to Nicole and father of 4 amazing kids. Most importantly, his life has been transformed by God, and now he has the privilege to see many other lives being transformed too. He graduated in 2000 from Lancaster Bible College, and is currently working on a Master’s degree from Regent University.
He has been at FUMC since 2004, building up teenagers, leading music, and has a great heart passion to reach the community and beyond for Jesus. He is ridiculously grateful for the joy and fullness of a life with Jesus, and loves the blessings of time with family, good food and conversation with friends, and hiking, backpacking, or anything outdoors.
Pat Gunning, Children’s Program Director
Pat is a person who loves Jesus with all her heart and is willing to do anything to show anyone especially boys and girls Jesus loves them too! Pat has served at FUMC guiding our children and children’s ministry since May 2016.
Pat Gunning has been a local here to Collingswood. Pat graduated from Collingswood High School and Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. She also earned a Master’s in Curriculum and Supervision at Rutgers University while teaching full time in Camden. Pat taught 1st through 3rd grades for twelve years. Then she served as principal at Woodlynne School for twenty-five GREAT years before retiring. Upon Pat’s retirement a brand new library was named in her honor and the children gave her a teary but tremendous send off.
She loves to cook and entertain, do all kinds of crafts including woodworking and counted cross stitch. She thoroughly enjoys traveling and has been to many places around the world. She says she is continuously blessed by a tremendous God who gives her the opportunity to serve.
Will Walker, Organist
Maria Gianfrancesco, Administrative Assistant
Maria Gianfrancesco has been the church secretary since May of 1999. She has been that kind voice on the telephone or smiling face behind the desk. She has been married to her husband Vince for 33 years and they have 2 adult children. Maria loves spending time at the beach with her family and feels very blessed to be working at First Church showing God’s love in anyway she can.
