Advent Theme: “Believe” – What happens when we choose to really believe?
Join us this Advent season as we consider these questions: What did some of the characters of the first Christmas story actually believe about God and His plan in their lives? What truths did they learn that first Christmas that impacted their lives and helped them believe what God was about to do in their midst that changed their lives and can change ours today?
December 3 – 1st Sunday of Advent, Communion
Mary & Zachariah: “Can God Do the Impossible?”
December 10 – 2nd Sunday of Advent
Herod: “Who is Really in Control?”
December 17 – 3rd Sunday of Advent
Children’s Presentation: “God’s Gift to Us”

Handel’s Messiah Christmas Concert
On Monday, December 11, members of the greater Collingswood community and some area high school choirs will present the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah including the beautiful Hallelujah Chorus.
Choir director Will Powell from Collingswood Presbyterian Church is inviting interested singers and instrumentalists to join with the choir for this very special performance.

Contact Will Powell at pianoboy88@hotmail.com. Participants will be emailed a musical track, and expected to attend at least 2 rehearsals.

Rehearsals at 7 pm at First United Methodist Church on Dec. 4th, 5th, & 7th.

Children’s Christmas Play: “God’s Gift to Us”
For presentation at our Family Christmas Celebration on Sunday December 17th, at the combined 10:45 am service.

Rehearsals for children from 10:00 to 11:30 am on Saturday Dec. 9th and Saturday Dec. 16th

Anyone that would like to help, feel free to show up!

There is a special need for a caroling group to sing with the children 5 songs, one verse.


  • Wednesday, December 6 – Prayer Meeting
    • 7:00 pm – in the Sanctuary
  • Saturday, December 9th – Women’s event: Christmas Brunch & Cookie Exchange
    • For women and girls, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.
    • You don’t have to participate in the cookie exchange. You can just come for the brunch.
    • There will be a guest speaker and some carol singing as well. There will be a free will offering.
    • We will also be signing cards to be sent to those in the military who are associated with our church members.
    • Please return your forms no later than 12/7/17. If you are unable to pick up a form or have any questions, please contact Lois Fuller or Jennifer Schwehm.
  • Saturday, December 9th – Family Game Night
    • 6:00 to 9:00 pm – In our Stokes Ave. Dining Room.
    • Held the 2nd Saturday of every month.
    • Feel free to bring your favorite game or come and learn a new one!
    • Also, bring your favorite snack to share.
    • Any questions, please see Emily Davis or Susan Gibbins-Davis.
  • Sunday, December 10th – Discover First United Methodist Church (FUMC)
    • 9:40 am – for 45 minutes in Room 206 (right next to the church office).
    • You may be a first time visitor/guest, a regular visitor/guest, or just have questions about what FUMC of Collingswood is all about. Maybe you’ve been away from church for a while, or never been involved in church, or are curious about this particular church. You may have questions about what we believe about God, salvation, the Bible, and the Christian life. This one time discovery session is planned for you.
    • There are planned programs for children and youth during this session or if you are more comfortable, they may remain with you.
    • We would love to have a conversation with you. Several church leaders will meet with you during this 45 minutes.
  • Monday, December 11th – Handel’s Messiah Christmas Concert
    • 7:30 pm – in our Sanctuary. Free and all are invited.

    • Please bring a nonperishable food item to help support our local food pantry.
  • Sunday, December 17th
    • 9:40 am – Sunday school for all ages
    • 10:45 am – Christmas combined service, with Children’s Play “God’s Gift to Us”.
    • Presentation of staff love gifts.

  • Wednesday, December 20th
    • 6:30 pm – Christmas caroling at the Collingswood Manor
  • Sunday, December 24th – Christmas Eve
    • 8:30 am – combined Christmas Eve morning service
    • 9:40 am – Sunday school for all ages
    • 6:45 pm – family Christmas Eve candlelight service
  • Sunday, December 31st – New Year’s Eve
    • 9:40 am – Sunday school for all ages
    • 10:45 am – combined New Year’s Eve communion service
