What We Value

Core Values of First United Methodist Church

Loving God… Loving People… Connecting with Our Neighbors…

The Collingswood FUMC family, has a passion for God and sharing his love with our neighbors both near and far. Our passion comes from hearts and lives that are focusing on God, and remaining in his son, Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Loving God

We have a PASSION for the BIBLE – As the inspired Word of God, the Bible is the absolute source of truth, giving understanding of God, ourselves, and life. (2 Timothy. 3:16-17)

We have a PASSION for PRAYER – Prayer is communication with God. Through it we acknowledge our dependence on him, find intimacy with Him, and see His power at work. (Philippians. 4:6-7)

We have a PASSION for WORSHIP – We value and encourage God-honoring worship as an expression of love, thankfulness, awe, reverence, and devotion to Him. (Psalm. 100)

Loving People

We have a PASSION for RELATIONSHIPS – We believe it is not good for people to be alone, and that everything we do is more effective when our lives are closely connected in genuine love for each other. (Ephesians 4:1-16 and Ecclesiastes 4:9 -10)

We have a PASSION for TRANSFORMING DISCIPLESHIP – We are dedicated to helping each other become more and more like Jesus every day – experiencing healing from hurt, freedom from sin, renewing of the mind, and lasting life-change. (Romans. 12:1-2)

We have a PASSION for HOLINESS – With the Holy Spirit as our Counselor, we want our lives to be set apart, reflecting the holiness of God in a way that stands out in this world.(2 Corinthians. 3:18)

Connecting with our Neighbors

We have a PASSION to be WELCOMING –The understanding that all people are valuable drives us to reach out to everyone, accepting them as they are. We strive purposely to cause people to feel like they belong (attitude and actions). (Luke. 9:11)

We have a PASSION for SERVING – We engage ourselves in helping each other discover our spiritual gifts, intentionally using them in recognizing and meeting the needs of others. (Matthew. 25:31-46)

We have a PASSION for SALVATION – Because we have experienced the love of God, we desire to share that love with others, so that they can also enter into a life-changing love relationship with Him. (John. 17:2-3)
